success at last .

went out on a session last thursday .

arrived at the lake at 5.30pm

it was as still as a millpond and there were fish rolling all over the lake .

the weed had really took hold i the pegs i wanted to fish , but one was clear from about 20yards out .

i set up the rods , fired out about 12 spods full of bait and positioned the rods .

one drop back bite all night was not boding well for a bag up session lol .

at 11.30am  on the friday i had one blip on my left hand rod , a drop back bite , hit it and fetched in a nice bream of 8lb 5oz . at one point i thought i was gonna have to go in after it when it weeded itself up .

at 2.45pm  i had a solid take , the alarm screamed and line was stripping from my reel like crazy .

after a spirited fight where it ran into weed time and again i managed to slip the net under a beautiful female tench .

slipping her into the weighsack , and reading the scales she went to 9lb exactly .

after all the struggles with spawning and the weather , to get a fish like her was a real buzz .

weve not been putting much on here , cos weve not been putting much on the bank lately .

the weather has got the fish spawning and as we all know , if theres a bit of the other on offer appitite goes out the window .

went this weekend , friday afternoon till sunday morning and four rods produced 2 bites and nothing on the bank .

two carpers next to us put 6 mirror carp on the scales rangeing from 16 to 23 lb .

better luck next time eh .

happy days

i got two sessions in last week

tuesday i got out on the water ( no simmo , he was too busy )

got to the lake about half 10 ( school run ) to find someone fishing my favourite peg .

dropped in 2 down , rigged up , and fred out the boillies .

had my first run at 11.30 , a tench at 6lb on the button , nice fish , nice fight .

after a wait in the wind and rain i got another run on the right hand rod 4lb 8oz tench .

final fish came at 2pm . a tiddler of 4lb 2oz , another tench .

no bream as of yet .

saturday 21/3/09

me and simmo were up at the crack of daft oclock .

hit the water at 6am ( dunno why ? the fish dont get up till 8 )

two carpers were fishing the grass bank where we like to fish from so we hiked into the woods .

dropped into a peg we have never fished before so it was a suck it and see session .

set up 2 rods each i set up a 3d boillie on one and a vision baits liver garlic sausage pop up on the second rod .

simmo went for 3d on both .

at just turned 9 i had the first run of the day . tench again at 6lb 4oz .

about half 9 simmo got one at 6lb 12oz .

after a 3 hr wait i binned the vision bait ( try it again next session ) and switched to popped up fake corn .

the bites came in quick succession then .

a tench on 3d at 6lb 3oz , a very nice bream ( first of the campaign ) at 6lb 7oz .

and then another bream ( on the corn ) at 5lb 13oz .

there may not be huge numbers of fish but they are all BIG .

And here we go .

It started the usual way when im not working , up , take Sam ( stepson ) to school ,

down to Daz at Redfins tackle shop in Measham to buy the bait n stuff .

Finally ,after a return visit to home for my mobile we hit the water at 10am  .

The lake we fish is about 40acres with a couple of islands to aim at if you can cast 120yds or have a baitboat ( i cant do either anymore the back wont let me )

The wind was howling and it was tipping it down and we both thought we were in for a fruitless day .

After mixing the groundbait and rigging up we set up the pods and fired out the rods two with worm and maggot and two with popup boillies  at about 45yds and waited , and waited , and waited , finally at just turned 1pm my  right hand rod bleeped twice , waited a secomnd and screamed into life .

After a short scrap i slipped the net under a beautiful 8lb 4oz tench ( the first of the season )

Not 5mins later Simmos rod went off with a 4lb 6oz bream . We unhooked and weighed it , and as he was rebaiting my other rod went , it was like an express train , i hit it , played it , and then swore a lot as i felt the hook pull on a VERY big fish .

Everything was switched to boillie as we had no action on the worm/maggot . The rods were repositioned , alarms set , and we waited again .

At 3pm i left Simmo and drove over to pick Sam up from school . After a brief stop for him to get changed it was back on the water for the final 2hrs .

When we got to the lake Simmo showed us a stunning 8lb 2oz tench he had while i was gone ( he had lost 2 others )

Its usual for this lake for us to lose the odd fish , theres bream over14lb , tench over 12lb and carp in excess of 30lb .

so cant wait

Tuesday 27th jan 2009 .

Well so far this year we have managed 3 outings , what with hail , sleet , and most of the water having a layer of ice on it it's been awful .

But in those 3 trips we've managed 3 Pike , nothing special , no monsters , but 3 decent fish all the same .

Got a couple of weekends off now but back to it with a vengance soon .
